".....I want to say sorry to my nation. We tried our level best but couldn't make it." is what the Pakistani skipper said at the ceremony after the match. This statement moved the whole country as we all believe he did not need to apologize to us. In fact we need to thank Shahid Khan Afridi for giving this nation a reason to smile.
From announcing the captain a mere few days before the world cup, to all the spot fixing scandals in which we lost a fierce young talent Muhammad Amir. Our team had reached a point where no one was even expecting them to make it to the quarter finals. But against all odds, the men in green not only reached the semi-final, they blazed through the competition in fine fashion. The acclaimed cornered tigers defeated the world champions Australia in the last group stage match, not only that but they ended their 12 year unbeaten run. How our team blazed through West Indies to reach the semi-final was also remarkable to watch!
Unfortunately our great run ended when we faced defeat from the one team we can not digest defeat from-India. Every Pakistani would have loved to see the Indian team face defeat from us for the first time in a world cup, but at least our team went down fighting hard. A few mistakes here and there on our end, but on the whole the entire nation is proud of how our team has performed through out the tournament.
So the moral of the story is pretty simple. Instead of trying to scrutinize the team and making them face more controversies than they already have, we need to show our whole hearted support to them. That is the only way we can raise the moral of our cricket team and give them the confidence they need.
